In addition to free public schooling and healthcare coverage, the Government of Canada offers many generous benefits to help support its residents with various aspects of their lives. Families with children are entitled to receive a Canada Child Benefit, which is a monthly payment that varies depending on the number of children and family income. Seniors (age 65+) are also supported with monthly payments through the Canada Pension Plan, as well as the Old Age Security plan. Individuals who are unemployed or who earn very low income are also supported through employment insurance and welfare assistance.
For new immigrants to Canada, the government offers many courses and methods to help improve your skills and outcomes in the country, such as “English as a Second Language” classes.
